Royal Phuket Marina was the first marina in Thailand to sign up for the Marina Industries Association’s Plastic-Free Pledge, affirming their commitment to reduce and eventually eliminate the use of single-use plastics in the marina by 2025. The deployment of the V5 Seabin is an additional step the marina is taking towards ensuring a clean and green marine environment.

Developed by The Seabin Project, the innovative V5 Seabin functions as a floating rubbish bin, and is designed to be installed in marinas, yacht clubs, ports, and other water bodies to assist with rubbish and debris buildup. Made from recyclable materials, the unit features a submersible water pump that draws in water from the surface and captures rubbish via a catch bag which can hold up to 20kg of debris. The water is then circulated back into the marina debris-free.

The catch bag filters macro and microplastics down to 2mm, as well as microfibers, organic waste, and fuel and oil. The V5 Seabin is strategically placed at Royal Phuket Marina, and all refuse is collected and sorted in on-site recycling bins 4 times daily and collects a total of around 48kg each day.
